Yesterday we took the express subway up to Yongsan in Seoul. It was an hour ride, as opposed to the normal 110+ minute ride. The express only makes 13 stops along the way from Pyeongtaek. The regular one makes 30 stops from Pyeongtaek to Yongsan. Another bonus was that it wasn't as crowded either. We still had no seats for awhile, but my kids are used to copping a squat on the floor (which most Koreans don't find proper).
Have you ever used this for a toilet my friends? It was my first time using a squat toilet yesterday. Daniel has used them a lot before I guess, but I was a newbie. The girls chose to wait for a western style toilet.
Yahaira is becoming quite the little Asian. She is a pro at eating with chop sticks, she can read the Korean word for ramen and ate spicy ramen without a complaint!
On our walk from Yongsan Electronics Market to Itaewon, we came across a playground that the kids enjoyed climbing all over.
We ate dinner in Itaewon. It was expensive. Everything in Itaewon seems expensive; understandably so, since that is the major expat community. We had gone there in search of a kimchi burger that Daniel had read about back in August. He couldn't remember the place. We did not find it, but we did settle on some burgers. Yahaira had a sloppy joe, Daniel had a philly burger, Israella had a cheeseburger and I ate the side salad, pickles, carrots, and a few bites from everyones burgers. Little Man was passed out, so he got nothing.
Daniel woke up just in time to take the train back to Pyeongtaek. We took a taxi from Itaewon back to Yongsan, which was totally worth the 5,900 won! I didn't have to pay for the subway and we didn't have to transfer lines! Since we got to the station 40 minutes before the express subway departed, we opted to take the train. It cost 12,000 won (as opposed to 5,300 won) for all of us, but we got in 40 minutes sooner. There was standing room only, but no problem for us. We sat on the floor and enjoyed the 55 minute train ride.
The entire point of going to Yongsan was to check out the electronics market. It was computers and computer parts heaven. So much for a geek to geek out on. Not so much for a kid to enjoy. I ended up taking the kids and heading towards Itaewon while Daniel stayed behind to look around. It looked like there were some deals to be had (if you are looking for a computer or monitor), but I wasn't that impressed by it. Then again, I'm not a tech geek. I know very little about electronics.
